Every week, I will preview the best games of the college football week and give some predictions for some of the top games. I will keep track of the predictions below, and update my record each week in the College Football Preview Blog.
Week 10 Record
Straight Up = 3-2
Against the Spread = 3 wins, 1 loss, 1 push
Tuesday Review
MACtion is back, and much-needed for the final weeks of the CFB season.
(1) Bowling Green defeated Central Michigan on the road 23-13. Missouri transfer Connor Bazelak had solid game to push Bowling Green to 4-1 in the MAC, while Central Michigan fell to 1-4 in the MAC.
(2) Miami (OH) defeated Ball State 27-21 in Muncie. Miami (OH) is also 4-1 in the MAC, but struggled to defeat the Cardinals. Big game for Justin Bowick, who has the size to be a candidate to transfer up to P4.
Wednesday Review
(1) Northern Illinois mollywopped Western Michigan 42-21 in Kalamazoo. Northern Illinois gave up an early TD down 7-0, but the game flipped after WMU called an interesting fake punt that led to an interception for NIU.
The momentum flipped after that, and WMU could not stop the run. NIU ran away with the game in the 2nd half.
(2) Ohio also won on the road at Kent State, whose arguably the worst team in America. Losing 41-0 at home sucks for everyone involved.
Thursday Preview
App State (-1) v. Coastal Carolina – I think App State wins a close game, as I trust their QB more than Coastal’s QB. Joey Aguilar has played well this season, and I think App State beats Coastal for the first time in three seasons.
Friday Preview
Iowa v. UCLA (+6.5) – UCLA has played many games tough this season, and has picked up two important wins in recent weeks on the road, at Rutgers and at Nebraska. I believe that they will carry the momentum and play Iowa very tough on Friday night. Iowa has to travel two time zones and has a suspect passing attack. Iowa escapes by a FG.
New Mexico (+2.5) v. San Diego State – Bronco Mendenhall has already shattered expectations for New Mexico, as they have won 3 games, surpassing their expected win total by two games. Devon Dampier is one of the best duel threat QBs in the nation, and will give SDSU trouble all evening. I don’t think SDSU has a good defense, and believe the Lobos will score often. New Mexico wins by a TD.
Saturday Preview
Minnesota (-6) v. Rutgers – Minnesota takes their four-game winning streak into NJ and old QB Athan Kaliakmanis. Rutgers have lost four straight and need a big game from Kyle Monangai if they stand a chance to beat the Gophers. Minnesota should win this game by a TD, but expect a very low scoring game in Piscataway!
Georgia v. Ole Miss (+2.5) – This is quite possibly the biggest game in Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Career. If Ole Miss loses, they are eliminated from CFP contention with three losses. Georgia has looked beatable against their tougher competition, as Carson Beck is having trouble making smart decisions with the ball. Ole Miss lists both WR Tre Harris and Jordan Watkins as doubtful, but are still only 2.5 point dogs. Ole Miss upsets Georgia and remains in CFP hunt, 21-17.
Colorado v. Texas Tech (+4) – Texas Tech is the ultimate jekyll and hyde team. They have a lot of offensive talent, but struggle mightily to stop teams defensively. In comes Colorado, another team with CFP aspirations. It is hard to win on the road in the Big 12, s0 I believe Morton, Brooks, and the Tech offense will have an offensive outburst. Raiders win in an upset, 42-38.
Alabama (-2.5) v. LSU – Both Alabama and LSU have lost two games entering November, which rarely ever happens. Alabama has struggled on the road versus Vandy and Tennessee, but I expect them to come prepared to visit Baton Rouge. This is an elimination game from the CFP for all intents and purposes. LSU has played a very difficult schedule but recently got embarrassed by Texas A&M in the second half. Alabama had to see Marcel Reed destroy LSU with his legs, so expect a heavy dose of Milroe’s legs in an Alabama win 34-31.
BYU v. Utah (+3.5) – This marks the first in-conference Holy War since I can remember as BYU travels to Salt Lake City this Saturday. Utah’s season has been disappointing, whereas BYU is undefeated and has CFP aspirations. Utah leads the series 62-35-4, but has question marks at QB. BYU has one of the best QBs in the Big 12, in the BYJew himself, Jake Ratzlaff. However, give me Utah to win in an upset 31-27. I can’t see Kyle Whittingham lose another home game.
Let us know what other Saturday Games you are looking forward to in the comments. The slate looks fantastic this weekend. Can’t wait until Saturday!
